ALS: Sag Harbor, New York, 1893 Oct. 31.

In this autograph letter, Hawthorne addresses Frederick A. Castle, the secretary of the Grolier Club (a New York City bibliophile society), and acknowledges the gift of one of the bronze portrait medallions of Nathaniel Hawthorne that club member Francis Lathrop had sent him. This portait medallion was modeled by Jean Désiré Ringel d'Illzach and struck by the club in 1892. A few copies were also issued in silver.
